Announcements are full-page displays to let users know about anything you like. Typically, you'd use them to announce new products or services, events,or service downtime.
Here's a demo announcement that we made, announcing our announcement feature.
You can access announcements at [MDX CODE].
Announcement groups
Announcements are separated into groups. Each announcement group represents a chain of announcements on the same topic. For example, if your company sells two different products, you might have 3 announcement groups - one for product A, one for product B, and one for urgent group (see below) for emergency announcements.
Each group has a filter to determine which users will be notified about users in that group. Almost always, you'd set up the filters to only be sent to signed-up users - full-page displays to new visitors are going to be perceived as annoying in most cases.
When one of your users receives an announcement, that announcement will be front-and-center, but they can go back to see previous announcements.
Urgent vs non-urgent
Announcements come in two-flavors: urgent announcements (for things like service downtime), and non-urgent announcements (for everything else). Non-urgent announcements cannot interrupt the user - they are only sent at the very beginning of a user's session. Urgent announcements will be sent immediately, possibly interrupting users that are already online. Be very careful when sending urgent announcements - interrupting your users for anything they perceive as unimportant will lower your website's credibility.
In addition to being sent only at the start of a session, non-urgent announcements will only fire once every 30 days. If a user has seen one of your announcements less than 30 days ago, they will not see any announcements, even at the beginning of their session. After the 30-day limit, they will see whichever announcement is most recent. Urgent announcements do not have this 30-day limit.
Only one announcement group can be marked as urgent, and all announcements in it will be urgent. All other announcements are non-urgent.
Creating an announcement group
You can create an announcement group by going to [MDX CODE] and clicking Create announcement group. The first step when creating an announcement group is to filter which users will see the announcements in this group. The filters behave exactly the same as in the CRM. Once you've selected which users to target, you'll end up on the announcement group screen.
You can edit the group's name by clicking on it, and you can edit the filters for the group. If you edit the filters and some users no longer match the filters, they will no longer receive new announcements, and they will not be able to see any old announcements from that group.
You can mark a group as urgent by clicking the red star icon. This will make all other groups non-urgent.
You can delete an announcement group by clicking the Delete announcement group button at the bottom of the page. You can restore any deleted group by clicking View trash at the top right, and restoring it from there. Groups in the trash are permanently deleted after 30 days.
Creating an announcement
When inside an announcement group, you can create a new announcement by clicking New announcement. First, you must choose a template to start from. Templates are pre-built components so that you don't have to start from scratch. After you choose a template, you will get to the announcement editor.
The announcement editor lets you place and style various components to achieve your desired layout. See The component editor for more info.
You can add multiple frames to your announcement. Users will be able to swipe through the frames on mobile, or click through them on desktop.
In the top bar, there are 3 buttons:
- Exit will leave the editor and discard any changes you made to the announcement.
- Save as draft will save your changes, but they will not be visible to users. You'll be able to share your announcement internally to get feedback.
- Schedule will take you to the scheduling page to publish your announcement to everybody. Once you choose the schedule, you'll get one final chance to review before making your publishing your announcement.
